The top ten percent or top three applicants, whichever is greater, of a waiting list is the frozen zone. Once your name reaches this zone, new applicants will not be placed ahead of you.
Personnel returning from an overseas assignment do not receive special consideration.
When your name is number one on a waiting list, you will be offered quarters that will become vacant within the next 30 days (time frame depends upon how much advance notice is given by current occupant).
When notified you must accept or refuse the quarters by the following workday. Inability to view the quarters does not warrant a delay for accepting or refusing assigned housing.
If you refuse the quarters, your application will be cancelled.
Because the demand for family housing far exceeds available quarters, priority assignments to quarters is rarely granted. Such a request must be fully justified.

Office Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:15 p.m. Military personnel accompanied by bona-fide family members and assigned to Camp Lejeune or MCAS New River, are eligible for family housing. Each family member, excluding spouse, of a military member rates a bedroom regardless of age or sex.
Documents needed:
- Original orders with reporting endorsement, or
- Copy of original orders and reporting endorsement certified by commanding officer to be true copies, or
- Letter from Commanding Officer to the Director, Family Housing, giving date member detached from last permanent duty station and date reported to Camp Lejeune for duty.

The Onslow County Animal Control Shelter has over 120 dog kennels and 90 cat units. Features include a kennel attendant area and an education room.
Because the shelter's goal is to control the population of unwanted animals in the county, all animals adopted from the shelter must be spayed or neutered. The spaying or neutering fee includes the adoption fee. Visitors must pay a fee of $75.00-$100.00 to spay or neuter a dog six months old or older. Male puppies cost $75.00 to neuter and female puppies cost $100.00 to spay. Male cats are $40.00 and female cats are $65.00.
Rabies control, administered through the Onslow County Health Department Animal Control, is another priority area at the county shelter. Animal control officers also investigate animal cruelty and abandonment, puppy mills, dog fighting, cock fighting and horse cruelty.
In addition, the officers handle loose, stray or barking dogs, and incidents of bites that are reported to the hospital.
Complaints after working hours or on holidays may be made by calling the Onslow County Sheriff's dispatcher at (c) 910-455-3113.
In an EMERGENCY, call 910-455-9119. Emergencies consist of: Animal bites, sick or injured strays, animals hit by cars and aggressive animals.

Office Hours: 7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday.
TRICARE is the medical program for active duty personnel, qualified family members, military retirees and their family members, survivors and other eligible beneficiaries.
TRICARE eligibility is determined through the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). If you have moved you can update your address in DEERS through the TRICARE Internet address listed above, call the DEERS Support Office. You can also mail in your address change to the:
DEERS Support Office
ATTN: COA
400 Gigling Road
Seaside, CA 93955-6771
TRICARE offers beneficiaries several choices for their health care:
TRICARE Standard - Formerly known as CHAMPUS (Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Uniformed Services). It includes deductibles and cost shares. It is the most expensive option but offers the broadest choice of civilian providers.
TRICARE Extra - A network of civilian providers who have agreed to charge no more than the TRICARE allowable amount and will file your TRICARE claims. TRICARE Extra reduces your cost share by 5%. It has the same deductibles as TRICARE Standard except there is no deductible when using a TRICARE Extra pharmacy.
TRICARE Prime - The least expensive option. A Primary Care Manager (PCM) team guides your health care. Enrollment is required to participate. There is no enrollment fee for active duty family members. There is no deductible for authorized civilian care. Prime also provides quality health care and low co-pays when referred by your PCM to a civilian provider. If you enroll by the 20th of any given month you would be eligible for Prime benefits by the 1st of the following month. Prime also offers better access to the military treatment facility.
Your PCM is a military health care provider or a team of health care providers who will manage your health care, provide treatment or referral for authorized specialty care.
You can enroll in Prime or transfer your Prime enrollment by visiting the TRICARE Service Center. The Service Center coordinates medical appointments with military and civilian providers, answers benefit questions, processes Prime enrollment requests, enrollment transfers, issue nonavailability statements, claims assistance and referrals.
TRICARE For Life - October 1, 2001 completes the implementation of the TRICARE for Life benefits for retirees age 65 and older Medicare-eligible beneficiaries. To be eligible for TRICARE for Life, the beneficiary must be enrolled in Medicare Part B. TRICARE will then act as a secondary payer to Medicare. All claims will be transferred automatically from Medicare to TRICARE.
New Benefits that become effective with TRICARE for Life include TRICARE becoming a secondary payer to Medicare and TRICARE covering out-of-pocket costs for TRICARE authorized services. Effective April 1, 2001 as part of the new TRICARE for Life benefit, retirees age 65 and older enrolled in Medicare Part B become eligible to use the National Mail Order Pharmacy.
Enrollment in Medicare Part B is mandatory to receive health benefits with TRICARE for Life. It is also very important to ensure all DEERS information is current and accurate to receive continued eligibility for TRICARE for Life. For more information on TRICARE for Life, visit the website listed above.
Please call or visit the TRICARE Service Center for additional information.

The Young Marines (YM) program is the drug demand reduction effort of the Marine Corps League and the United States Marine Corps.
The official mission of the Young Marines is:
· To promote the mental, moral and physical development of its members.
· To instill in its members the ideals of honesty, fairness, courage, respect, dependability, attention to duty, love of God, country, and family.
· To stimulate an interest in and respect for, academic achievement and the history and traditions of the United States of America.
· To promote physical fitness through physical activities, including participation in athletic events and close order drill.
· To advocate a drug-free lifestyle.
The Young Marines program is run in a military fashion using similar staff structure, courtesies, customs, and discipline as the US Marine Corps. The Marine Corps enlisted rank system is used in the program--Young Marines wear the same uniform and enlisted rank insignia as members of the US Marines Corps, with the addition of Young Marine patches.
Young Marines work toward ribbons for personal achievement similar to badges earned in other youth programs. They also work towards promotions in rank. Rank promotions require positive reports from the Young Marines teachers and parents; mastering knowledge and skills outlined in the Young Marine guide book; and meeting physical fitness requirements.
