Moving to the Washington Metropolitan area is confusing and stressful. It is far more complicated than moving to most military installations. An enhanced relocation program, which offers person-to-person communications with gaining installation, to obtain accurate information, answers to questions and assistance in charting a direction, will decrease the stress associated with the move. It can also prevent costly mistakes and a very positive first impression of MDW.
The CAIR mission is to facilitate moving to and from the National Capitol Region NCR) by providing comprehensive multidisciplinary relocation assistance to soldiers and families.
Information provided will include Military services and facilities, Welcome Packets, assignment addresses and phone numbers, BAH information, quarters availability, off-post housing options, temporary lodging facilities, etc.
Connection can be made to private relocation firms for personalized assistance in buying or renting a home through local real estate agents, print outs of rental or sale listings the service member can investigate on his/her own.
e. Personalized assistance is available for individual situations regarding youth sponsorship of youth ages 6-18 and Army Community Service (ACS) for Exceptional Family Member (EFM) or spouse employment information.

AFTB is training for spouses to help them understand and acclimatize to the special culture that is life in America?s Army. It improves personal and family preparedness, which enhances readiness. This training prepares spouses to function in any situation with minimal outside support. When families join the Army life, they leave behind their personal support structure in the civilian world: family, friends, etc. Things that were accomplished with ease in civilian life suddenly become insurmountable in the military lifestyle. Families don?t understand the military structure and where to go for help. AFTB is designed to educate them on how to function within the Army...no matter what duty station and situation that they find themselves in. AFTB is a survival guide for everyday living in the military. It teaches self-reliance and preparedness to take action when military life impacts on the family.
AFTB was developed by Army Spouses in 1992 for Spouses. Dedicated volunteers teach and manage this great program. It is divided into three levels. LEVEL 1 is designed for spouses who are new to the military . LEVEL II is designed for spouses involved in the unit and community, that want to learn more for personal growth as well as group dynamics. LEVEL III is designed for spouses desiring advanced leadership skills.
AFTB Classes On-Line!!!
Although AFTB classes are best experienced and recommended in a classroom setting, Level I (English and Spanish) and Level II (English) are now available on-line. Log on and take the class by computer. After completion of the class, you will receive a certificate of completion.
Child Care Available for daytime classes?
Child care is now provided for children of students attending daytime classes. You must pre-register for childcare and guarantee attendance. For reservations and additional information please call the AFTB Program Manager on (703) 696-3510.

Relocation is always a challenge, it is never easy to leave friends and family behind. While no move is without its difficulties and annoyances, careful planning can often make the difference between a smooth relocation and a financially and emotionally devastating relocation.. Our counselors evaluate this material, code it and enter this into a computer base. As openings develop, the computer matches the requirements of those openings against the applicants in the database. Once it is determined to be a good match, we will contact you by letter or phone. If you are interested, we will submit your file to the employer and actively pursue your candidacy, seeking an interview for you with him. There is a fee for this service.
